Small Business Struggles: Marketing Edition

I am the owner of a small business and know so many aspiring and current women business owners. I see a common struggle with all of them, which is….marketing Can any business owners relate?

Marketing is one of the most time consuming but necessary tasks for your business! It’s how you generate revenue for your business and build your client/customer base. Without marketing, you will find your business becoming stagnant.

As if marketing wasn’t challenging enough, most business owners have no idea where to even start when it comes to marketing their business.

I used to coach small business owners to help them better market their businesses and the first place I advised them to start with marketing was identifying their Ideal Customer Avatar.

Why is your idea customer avatar so important?

Truly understanding your ideal customer avatar is essential BEFORE creating programs/services or finding products and absolutely must be done before creating promotional items or marketing campaigns.

Knowing your ideal customer is not just simply knowing basic demographics, such as their age, gender, career, race etc, but diving into their psychographics. Psychographics are below the surface details and help you get to know your ideal customer on a deeper level. When you clue into the psychographics of your ideal customer avatar, you understand their beliefs, opinions, fears, values and more. Knowing the psychographics helps you better relate to your audience ensuring that you truly KNOW their struggles.

Here is an example to help you understand the value of basic demographic information versus psychographic details, when creating effective marketing campaigns to attract potential customers.

3. Get An Accountability Partner- Improving your health and fitness doesn’t have to be a lonely journey. This is one of the reasons why almost 80% of people who start a workout routine quit during the first month.

The content is very impersonal and doesn’t speak to any issues the audience may be having. Post B is much more in-depth and reads as if the author understands the everyday struggles and mindset of the audience. It speaks to different and specific pain points of the target audience.
